Smokey Bear Says Fire Danger is “RIDIC” Today Saturday, August 29, 2009

I’m a little nervous right now.  There is a fire–The Station Fire–continuing to burn in my neighborhood and has become threatening enough to warrant mandatory evacuations.  My best friend’s family was already asked to vacate.  Funny, I was on my way to meet her for lunch earlier today when I stopped to take this picture before hopping into my car:

I started packing, too, in case the fire, which was just reported to be inching closer towards residential areas, decides to infringe on the already uncomfortable 2 to 3 mile space between us.

The Foothills have seen much better days, but here are some amazing photos and beautiful captures from a distance of what’s been going on here since Wednesday.

Stay safe, everyone.

My good friend/co-worker Gaby is running the L.A. Marathon March 1st for AIDS Project Los Angeles. If you know me, I’d never hit you up for money. If you know this cause, you know they need all the money they can get for further research to find a cure. And if you know Gaby, she’d give all the money she had to meet this goal. So, please help.  Since we cannot singlehandedly find a cure, how about donating what you can?  Even if it’s $5. Something. Anything. It’s absolutely better than not running or doing anything at all.

bailout pow wow

I cannot stop reading about the bailouts. Tuesday, September 23, 2008

In a commentary to CNN today, Ron Paul said exactly what I’ve been feeling:

Unfortunately, the government’s preferred solution to the crisis is the very thing that got us into this mess in the first place: government intervention.

Or what about too much government?

As if worse hasn’t already come to worst, decisions made from the proposed bailout will be ‘non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency’ and ‘any funds expended for actions authorized by this Act, including the payment of administrative expenses, shall be deemed appropriated at the time of such expenditure.’ (See A Bailout Above the Law by Andrew Ross Sorkin.)

Here’s a faux letter from the big mucky muck behind this proposal.  While it’s a “bahaha,” it’s also a lot frightening because it is essentially what the government is asking of us.

This is crazy.

Words like “Seriously??” and phrases like “WTF?!” keep coming out of my mouth.  I’m developing a complex from nonstop shuddering as these bailout talks slap me hard with deja vu: remember a certain crisis situation we suffered from 7 years back (ahem, 9/11)?  And remember how our government did what it is trying to do now, which is take matters into its own hands (ahem, by going into war)?  Yeah.  That’s about as much comfort and assurance these talks are giving me.

I’ll wrap it up with this, as it pretty much sums up how I feel about the state of our nation as of late.
