Only Love Friday, July 24, 2009

I already loved Gaby for being a great friend and co-worker.  But then she had to go running the LA marathon to raise money to fight AIDS.  And now she goes and does this.

Seriously. Is it possible for you to stop being amazing?

Funny I should come across this after my someecards post.

Same concept though this might be more original and have better artistic components to it. Maaaaaybe. :)

The Timestamp exhibit opens in Los Angeles at The Gay & Lesbian Center: The Village at Ed Gould Plaza tomorrow evening. You smell that? It smells like what could make for a sweet date night.

This is a shout out to my West Hollywood gay bars and how my only wish this past June during Pride was to hear these either on one of the parade floats or at The Abbey or Here.

Is “Lil Wayne” Code For Something? Thursday, July 10, 2008

Filed under: Blah Blah Blahs, Booze, Family, Gaaayyy, Music, Photos, The Grind — Ritzel @ 2:57 am

Because this guy was all up in my face yesterday.

Lil Wayne

On my way to work, I was listening to Big Boy in the Morning. Luscious Liz reported how Lil Wayne was soon to star in a movie-documentary and was recently dubbed as the next TuPac. Now, I’m not that invested and I’m not knocking Lil Wayne, but c’mon. Even a non-street credible person like me thought this was premature, even if your 5th album is currently number 1 in America over Coldplay. You just don’t get your first million-unit hit album and get compared to Pac. Anyway, I brushed it off and bopped my head to the track that came up soon after…

…even if I wasn’t into it. But that’s what you do with the last 4 minutes you have left before surrendering yourself to the next 9 hours at the jobby job. You make the most of it, even if it’s with Weezy.

(By the way, that wasn’t the version I actually heard but a remix I preferred since it was, well, Kanye’s.)

Sometimes Lil Wayne’s timing was impeccable. Like when I was driving my mom home tonight while talking about my finances. A Milli paced itself well in time by thumping itself through the Monsoon speakers as I explained to my mom how much I have and how much I need this and how much I need to win millions.

Then on my way “home,” Want You by Lloyd featuring Lil Wayne came on.

That song always reminds me of Duy. It might have something to do with it being his myspace profile song for forever forever ago. I liked it then. I still like it now.

Then, lastly, I was doing laundry and baking tomorrow’s lunch/dinner tonight when I was reading up on my random web paraphernalia and lo’ and behold, guess who pops up. That’s right! Good ol’ Lil Wayne! This time he’s in the form of a new champagne line called “Halo.”

Lil Wayne\'s Halo Champagne

I couldn’t think of a better way to wrap up my Lil Wayne day than with a lil bubbly. In place of “Halo,” I’m reading it as “Hello!” like he were some gay boy standing on the corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and San Vicente in front of Rage to give me more reason to laugh at how this Weezy was all up in my heezy today.

29, oh my! Sunday, June 22, 2008

I turned 29 this past Friday. Here are 29 things I have to say about it.

  1. What’s the point in worrying about getting closer to 30 when at 29 you are golden and blessed with amazing, loving people around you?
  2. Whenever I think of “Betsy,” I type “Bets” and mistype it as “Best.” The real mistake is that it’s not a typo because Betsy is the best.
  3. It was quite the “B” theme: Betsy’s backyard, BBQ, burgers, booze, bros, babes…all things badass.
  4. The only major negative b-thing was the bummer that was the missing presence of certain individuals dearest to me: Jennifer and Ami. But you’re excused being in Pittsburgh and Boston respectively. However, Gerick and Quentin…we must have some words, yo.
  5. A BBQ in 95+ degree heat is a party faux pas.
  6. Friends give the best hugs.
  7. Real friends give the best hugs while picking you up.
  8. Really amazing friends give you the best hugs, pick you up and don’t pull away even when you’re a hot, sweaty mess.
  9. Sparkling shiraz is my newfound love. Thank you, Helen!
  10. Who needs men when you’ve got lesbians manning a grill?
  11. My godson, Brandon, is still cuter than yours.
  12. It’s no wonder since his mom is Janet, who is still as pretty as ever and, as Friday night proved, is without a doubt still my very best friend whom I love more than I say or show on most occasions.
  13. Dancing to Justin Timberlake with a Solo cup full of chardonnay and hot girls dancing in front and behind you is an absolute must for every birthday.

  14. That said, props to Vivs for an awesome birthday playlist! Here is a sample mixtape. And here are a couple more tracks. These make up the soundtrack to some of the warmest parts of that night:

  • you can download the new Radiohead album, In Rainbows, for free?
  • the US was actually considering dropping a gay bomb as a war tactic?
  • Jerry Springer was once the mayor of Cincinnati?

I don’t know…

  • why it’s impossible to buy a facial steamer at CVS, Rite-Aid, Longs Drugs, Target and Bed, Bath & Beyond.
  • if I should listen to Z and sell my car for a new Scion or Civic.
  • where I honestly stand on this:

(Should it bother you enough to want to do something about it, click here and sign the petition.)

I know…

  • you are a cheap bastard if you don’t fork over some money when downloading the new Radiohead album.
  • I should be more offended by the med-school-in-the-Philippines quip and I’m a little embarrassed that I’m not or moved enough to want to sign the petition.
  • I wouldn’t need a facial steamer if only I got enough sleep each night.
  • I better get to bed RIGHT NOW because running on 3 hours of sleep last night was the death of me today.

And, umm, one last thing before I go…

  • I need help painting and putting shelves up in my apartment

and…

  • I will cook for you if you help me.

Apogee Wednesday, February 21, 2007

Filed under: Blah Blah Blahs, Food, Friends, Gaaayyy, Word of the Day — Ritzel @ 1:47 am

Today’s word of the day is apogee \AP-uh-jee\, noun:

  1. The point in the orbit of the moon or of an artificial satellite that is at the greatest distance from the center of the earth.
  2. The farthest or highest point; culmination.

I’m just getting home. A certain “sassy” male lesbian got an agent today, so even after working a 12-hour day, I chauffeured him to Canter’s where we celebrated with three rounds of drinks at the Kibitiz Room. It’s a shame I can’t remember for the life of me the name of that last band that played; I really did like them. What I can remember were the cute girls dancing to that last band that played and how I really, really liked them. There is something so very awesome about cute girls dancing drunk and happily like nobody’s business. They are, like, pleasant reminders as to why I am gay.

Speaking of those pleasant reminders, I got an email today from Ballerina Girl (yay, I finally have a good and fitting nickname for her). That put an extra spring in my step. Other positive points today include spotting the new moon–my favorite–on my way out from work and the company-paid sushi dinner I indulged in. The dinner was plenty good enough without sushi chef Justin hooking me up with free shots of sake and a yellowtail toro handroll. But it was a bonus and that along with the other said niceties were just enough to buffer the blow of seeing recent pictures of my ex with someone new. Perhaps today’s apogee is how I can look back on the day happily in spite of that.
